June 7 / Second Sunday after Pentecost
Title: Scandalous!
Text: Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26
Synopsis:
Following the calling of Matthew away from his career with the IRS, we find the disciples
being confronted by the Pharisees who ask, “Why does your teacher eat with tax
collectors and sinners?” Later, Jesus’ cloak will be touched by a woman who had
previously been unsuccessful in her attempts to find healing from her constant period.
Not only is she healed but also a ruler’s daughter whom Jesus raises from the dead.
Who are the people who reach out to us for healing? Who are we welcoming to our
table? Who needs to find new life through God’s Spirit working through us in our place
and time?
