Local

“As Christians, we engage in mission, not just because of some vague sense of the importance of doing good, but because mission is a primary way in which we live out our faith.  By engaging in mission, we joyfully respond to the love and grace that God gives us.  We answer the calling of Jesus Christ, who sends us out in mission.”

Community Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving Meals for the Homebound is a community outreach that delivers hot, (church-/home-cooked Thanksgiving meals to those in our community who can’t get out to enjoy a meal elsewhere or can’t cook for themselves, even including some of our emergency responders who are working on the holiday.  We invite anyone in the faith community to assist in this wonderful mission of sharing God’s love and abundance.  There are at least a dozen different ways to join the fun!

Casa de Amistad: Casa de Amistad (translated “House of Friendship”) is an ecumenical  501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose members seek to improve the lives of individuals and families in a multi-cultural community. It is located at the Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. Main Street UMC has been involved with and supported its ministries for many years.

Our mission is to equip, empower, and enrich lives in our multicultural community through programs of education and assistance. We have worked toward this goal through a homework assistance program called After School Tutoring for students in grades 1-5. It operates Monday–Thursday when school is in session.  We provide a snack each afternoon before we work on reading/language skills and math.  Casa de Amistad offers a school supplies program for all grades before school starts each fall semester. There is also a Christmas gift program, which provides warm clothing for children of all ages in the community we serve.  We partner with other organizations in the community to maximize our efforts and provide a wider range of services to a community in need.

Warm, waynesboro area refuge ministry, inc.

is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The purpose of WARM is to provide support, temporary shelter or housing, and community development for homeless adults and families in the Waynesboro & Augusta County areas of Virginia. WARM’s services are delivered through a winter shelter for homeless adults and a beautiful transitional housing facility for homeless women with children.

We partner with WARM once a year to provide a week’s worth of shelter at the physical church building.  During the week that Main Street UMC provides shelter, volunteers help by packing lunches, providing dinner, sleeping overnight, and interacting with our visitors.

WARM is an interdenominational, faith-based, and community-driven organization that strives to help its community through experienced, professional, and compassionate care and support for the homeless.
