Pastor Joe Shoop and Debra Bucklen have raised 6 children.

Matthew Shoop and his wife, Emily, live in Albany, NY with their three year old daughter, JoAnna, and a new one due in April.

Tom Shoop and his wife, Eva, live in Fredericksburg, VA.

Bethany Nyborg, her husband, Karl Nyborg, and their almost one year old son, William, live in Woodbridge, VA.

I, Pastor Joe Shoop, am the son of a United Methodist Pastor, so I am from all over Virginia. We moved about every 3 years as I was growing up. I am a second career pastor. I graduated from VCU with a degree in Physics, and worked in industry for five years as a laboratory supervisor and research associate. God called me right out of the laboratory into the pulpit. I have served as a pastor since 1997. Main Street UMC will be my fifth charge. I served four years in the Farmville District, six years on the Eastern Shore, six years in the Lynchburg District, and most recently seven years in the Alexandria District. My hobbies include woodworking, coffee roasting, music, games, and reading science fiction and fantasy.

Debra Bucklen, my wife, is from Eastern Kentucky.  She has a degree in linguistics from William and Mary and a master’s degree in library science from University of Kentucky.  She loves history, reading, old fashioned crafts, drama, costuming and singing.  She’s been homeschooling the kids for 27 years and counting.

My daughter, Moriah, has Down Syndrome and is 21 years old.  She likes movies, Barbie, music, pizza and worship.

I asked my daughters, Eden and Lydia, to write their own bios to introduce themselves.

Hi, I’m Eden Joy. I’m 19 years old.  I like drawing, reading, watching anime, crocheting, playing the piano, singing and collecting books.  Even though I’m the older one, I’m shorter than Lydia.

Hello! I’m Lydia Shoop and I’m 16 years old.  I really like cats and pillows.   My plan for the future is to go to college and have a double major in acting and foreign language.  I hope to have the opportunity to act in a professional setting and possibly publish the music I write.
